Smarter than Smoking
The Smarter than Smoking Holiday Coaching Clinic was conducted at the Kingsway Indoor Stadium for junior students under 16 over a 3 day period during the 2nd week of school holidays from 13th to 15th April 2010. 16 players enrolled for the 3 sessions which, despite increased advertising, turned out to be the same number as last year although these sessions did include 3 girls!
The content of the sessions were created to provided a continuous progression from the basic grip, strokes and rules through to service techniques and game strategy in both singles and doubles events.
All the students arrived with much enthusiasm and despite working them fairly hard they never wavered during the 3 days. Most if not all went away with more knowledge and expertise than they came with and a great deal of fun was had by all participants. There were encouraging signs from a number of players and a follow up program will be implemented to invite them join the State Development Program.
It is envisaged that these clinics will be conducted on a regular basis both in and out of School Holiday periods and the only constraints will be the coaching staff availability and suitable premises.
