Junior Graded Tournament
The first in the series of Smarter than Smoking Junior Graded and Novice Tournaments was conducted at the WATTA Centre on Saturday 25th February 2012 and it was supported by a number of new faces taking part in this season curtain raiser.
The 18 players who entered were divided into 4 graded groups and as usual this provided stiff opposition as all players within the groups were evenly matched.
The winners and runners-up of all these graded groups proceeded to 2 further groups of 4 players, the winners of which would contest the Overall Tournament Trophy.
The winner of the Overall Tournament was Eric Tian, a previous winner from 2011 and with the defeated finalist Kyle Katavatis are sure to go on to greater heights.
Notable performances were displayed by 10 year olds Ethan Bell and Daniel Montil with Gabriel Martinez at 9 years old player winning a medal at his first attempt.
Both Daniel and Gabriel are from St.Lawrence Primary School and it was refreshing to see yet another school being represented.
Our next competition will be the Smarter than Smoking Primary School Tournament to be held at WATTA on 31st March and the next JGT will be at the Kingsway Indoor Stadium on Saturday 5th May 2012.
