The second in a series of Smarter than Smoking, WATTA Junior Graded and Novice Tournaments was conducted at the Kingsway Indoor Stadium on Saturday 8th May 2010 and was highly successful.
This event attracted 25 junior players from various suburbs, both North and South of the river proving once again that distance is not a problem when a competition beckons. It was encouraging to see 3 girls taking part this time which indicates a 300% increase in the last tournament!
The format for this tournament placed the players in 5 groups, the winner and runner-up position advancing to 2 crossover groups of 5 and the winners of those groups playing for the tournament trophy. Players coming 3rd in their initial group went on to contest a consolation medal.

The winner of the tournament was Jason Nesbitt (St.Stephens H.S.) for the second time this year and the Runner-Up was Toby Lee (Scotch College). Consolation winner was Daniel Trang (Hampton Park P.S.) who together with Jason is likely to be included in the coming State selection and therefore will have to concentrate on higher level events.
The tournament was again played in good spirit and there were encouraging sign from a number of players including Aidan Johnstone, Marcus Tamlin and Katy Valentine who I am sure will go on to future success.
The next tournament in the series will be held at the Black Swan Table Tennis Club (Maddington) on the 31st July 2010.
